Terms of Service
The plain-English agreement between you and Housenote — kept as short as a legal document lets us.
Last updated July 14, 2026
These Terms are the agreement between you and Housenote, Inc. (“Housenote,” “we,” “us”) for using the Housenote app. By creating an account or using Housenote, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Housenote is free to use. If we ever introduce paid features, we'll show you the price and terms before you pay anything. We've kept this as plain as we can — it's still a legal agreement, so a few parts read like one.
You own what you create. The entries, photos, audio, comments, and collection items you add to Housenote are yours.
To run the app, you give us a limited license to store, host, and display your content โ but only so we can operate Housenote for you and the people in your house. This license exists to make the app work. It does not let us sell your content, show it to anyone outside your house, or use it for advertising. When you delete your content or your account, this license ends, subject to the retention timeframes in our Privacy Policy.
You're responsible for the content you post. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share.
Housenote is a place for close friends. To keep it that way, don't:
We can suspend or remove accounts and content that break these rules.
Housenote is built for close friends sharing in private. The categories below are what we'll act on if reported or detected. They're a deeper read of the Acceptable Use list above, plus how we handle things when something goes wrong.
What's not allowed
How we enforce
You can report any entry, comment, or person from inside the app โ tap the ยทยทยท menu on the item and pick Report. Submitting a report also blocks that person automatically, so you won't see their content while we review.
We review reports within 24 hours. Depending on the severity and history, we may:
Automated content scanning
Every image uploaded to Housenote is automatically scanned for the categories above. Content the scanner flags is queued for human review and may be removed.
Appeals
If we removed your content or suspended your account and you think we got it wrong, email hello@housenote.co. We respond within 7 days. We may not explain the specific basis for a removal, but every appeal is read by a human.
Housenote surfaces recommendations, which are generated automatically โ including with AI that builds a taste profile for your house from what's shared. In the future, we may convert product links shared in a house into affiliate links and earn a commission if you buy through one, at no extra cost to you; if we add that, we'll say so in the app and in our Privacy Policy first. Recommendations are not endorsements or guarantees โ products and sellers are the responsibility of those third parties, not Housenote, and any purchase is between you and the seller. See our Privacy Policy for how this works with your data.
We work hard to make Housenote reliable, but we provide it “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. We don't promise the app will always be available, error-free, or that it will meet every expectation. To the fullest extent allowed by law, Housenote isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the past 12 months (which, for a free app, may be nothing). Some states don't allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
Because you download Housenote from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
You also agree to comply with any applicable third-party terms (for example, your wireless carrier's terms) when using Housenote.
You can stop using Housenote and delete your account at any time from within the app. We can suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or to protect Housenote or its users. Sections that should reasonably survive termination โ like content ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability โ continue to apply.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
If you ever have a problem, email us first at hello@housenote.co โ most things are faster to sort out directly, and we'll genuinely try. If we can't resolve it that way, any dispute will be handled by the state or federal courts located in New York, and you and Housenote agree to that.
If you send us ideas, suggestions, or feedback, thank you โ we may use them to improve Housenote freely, without owing you anything and without having to keep them confidential. You keep your own ideas; this just lets us act on feedback without strings.
If you believe something on Housenote infringes your copyright or other rights, email hello@housenote.co with enough detail to identify the content and your claim. We'll review it and take appropriate action, which may include removing the content or closing the account responsible.
To the extent allowed by law, you agree to cover Housenote (and reimburse us for reasonable costs, including legal fees) for claims that arise from content you post or from your breaking these Terms. In plain terms: if what you share or do on Housenote causes a legal problem for us, that's on you, not us.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know through the app or by email. The “last updated” date below reflects the most recent version. Continuing to use Housenote after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
